Jakob’s research investigates the mechanisms that coordinate mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) copy number with the translational capacity of the cell. Focusing on the functional interplay between different proteins, he seeks to understand how the mitochondrial translation state influences genome homeostasis. By combining systematic genetic approaches with biochemical assays, Jakob aims to decipher how these factors 'sense' the availability of ribosomal subunits to regulate the degradation of key replication and transcription factors.
